A FEMINIST ANALYSIS OF MODERN BOARD GAMES
Keywords:
feminism, game studies, cultural studies, analog games, board gamesAbstract
Board games have been relevant throughout history, as cultural artifacts with a significant role in shaping social imaginaries and providing a unique social experience. Because of this, their production is affected by the same symbolic discrimination that affects any human cultural production. This paper presents a gender perspective study of modern board games of international renown published in Spain, in Spanish language. The aim is to discern whether they constitute a cultural element that perpetuates sexist dynamics and stereotypes. Preliminary results show that, despite some recent advances, their production process is still far away from being a truly inclusive and egalitarian space.Downloads
